What is it?
Most commonly referred to as ringing in the ears, but it can be any type of noise heard within the ears or head. Sometimes labeled as buzzing, humming, crickets, high line wire buzzing, locusts, whistling or whooshing. It can be there all the time or come and go (intermittent).
Tinnitus is a symptom of something else going on. Most commonly a symptom of hearing loss, but can also be caused by wax, exposure to loud noise, or fluid in the middle ear space like a kid's ear infection. Tinnitus can also be caused from taking certain medications like aspirin.
Tinnitus has two forms: Subjective (only heard by the individual describing it) and Objective (heard by others; generated by structures within the body in and around the ear).
